Communication and Information explained how negative content and hoaks were
neutralized via instant messaging. "We know the mode in posting (negative
content and hoax) on social media. On facebook, on Instagram in the form of
videos, memes or images. Then screen capture and neutralize not on social media
but on the WhatsApp messaging system," he explained.
The consequences of these
restrictions, according to Minister Rudiantara, will be slowing access,
especially for uploading and downloading image and video content. "We will
all experience slowing down access to download or upload videos," he
explained.
The Minister of
Communication and Information confirmed that the limitation was aimed at
avoiding the negative impact of the dissemination of content and messages that
could not be accounted for and contained provocations.
"Why is it because the
viral is limited. It's a negative thing. It's a lot of harm there," he said.
According to Rudiantara,
features that are restricted and temporarily not activated are features on
social media Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for images, photos and videos.
"What we freeze while those that are not activated are videos, photos and
images. Because psychologically the videos and images can evoke emotions,"
he explained.
The Minister of
Communication and Information explained that he could not take down one account
at a time. "Because our cellphone users are over 200 million. And almost
all of them use WhatsApp. If there is still no limit, it is still a process in
the telecommunication operator, we have just coordinated it," explained
Rudiantara.
The restriction according to
Rudiantara is based on the Information and Electronic Transaction Act. "So
the ITE Law has two core points. One is to increase literacy, capability,
capacity and capability of the people to be digital. And second, content
management, one of which is restrictions on content," he said.
The Minister of
