Deputy
Cabinet Secretary for Cabinet Work Support, Yuli Harsono, representing Cabinet
Secretary attended the closing of a translation training program for Functional
Officials of Indonesian Government Translator (PFP) conducted by the Australian
Government at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
“I
representing Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Pramono Anung,
is delighted to attend the closing of a translation training program at the
prestigious and world-renowned academic institution, Monash University,” Deputy
Yuli said in his speech at the Monash University office in Melbourne,
Australia, on Thursday (2/11) night.
According
to Deputy Yuli, one of the duties and functions of the Deputy Cabinet Secretary
of Cabinet Work Support is to prepare and translate the official Presidential
documents as well as to foster the Indonesian Government Translators.
From
2016 onwards, Deputy Yuli went on to explain, Cabinet Secretariat emphasized
the execution of its duties as a Fostering Agency for the PFP. As such, Cabinet
Secretariat is continuously committed to improving the quality and increasing
the number of the PFP.
Deputy
Yuli explained that the Cabinet Secretariat currently fosters 173 translators
derived from 51 Central Government agencies and 22 Regional Government
agencies. “149 out of 173 PFP translated from and into English, the rests are
Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, and local languages,” he
said.
When
it comes to quality, according to Deputy Yuli, Cabinet Secretariat fully
realizes the importance of improving the competence of the Government
Translators. However, in order to produce qualified translators, it cannot be
achieved overnight, but requires long-term efforts both at the national and
international level. “it is for this purpose the Cabinet Secretariat has
conducted translation trainings since 2016, we also train the PFP abroad,”
Deputy Yuli added.
Furthermore,
Deputy Yuli revealed that the PFP has contributed and played an important role
both at the regional and national level. A total of 35 translators from all
over Indonesia have translated more than 600 pages of documents related to
investment from Indonesian to English. “They play a crucial role in helping to
increase Indonesia’s ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business (EoDB)
list, from rank 106th in 2016 to 91st in 2017,” Deputy Yuli said.
Therefore,
on behalf of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, Deputy Yuli
expressed great appreciation to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade (DFAT) and the Australian Embassy in Indonesia for supporting the
cooperation of this training program. “The 12 participants have told me that
this training program has successfully improved their translation and
interpreting skills. Therefore, this program is worth considering by DFAT to be
continued in the future,” Deputy Yuli asserted.
In
addition, he also expressed his appreciation to Monash University, especially
to the Faculty of Humanities, as well as all lecturers, for their success in
organizing this training program. “The 12 participants were very satisfied
because they were trained by competent, experienced lecturers in their
respective fields,” he added.
Deputy
Yuli Harsono also congratulated the 12 participants who had successfully
completed the training despite being away from their relatives. “I believe you
gained a lot of knowledge and experience that will be very helpful in
developing a career in the future,” he added.
To
conclude his remarks, Deputy Yuli invited the Australian Government to continue
to work together in developing the PFP through a training program. “Let’s make
cooperation in the field of education as the knot that binds the Australia and
Indonesia relations closer in the coming years,” he concluded.

the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Cabinet Work Support on the occasion were
Assistant Deputy for State Documents and Translation Eko Harnowo, Assistant
Deputy for Meeting Reports Heru Priyantono, and Head Division of Management and
Development of Functional Position of Translator, Conakry Marsono.

Dr. Marc Orlando, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Sharon
